Gabriel Lotfy-Nassar materializes ideas with whatever the available tools may be. Living in relationship with the Blue Ridge Mountains, Gabriel is a self-taught stop motion animator, usually fulfilling the many roles of filmmaker, cinematographer, screenwriter, editor, and scorer. Additionally a self-taught, genre-expansive musician, multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, producer, sound designer, and mix/master engineer, the driving force behind musical projects foraging and Hayawan de Luz. The kind of artist who treats minimal supplies or budget as a welcomed challenge rather than an obstacle - as an invitation to reach deeper into the well of creativity and chance at finding an uncharted route. A crafter, carpenter, gardener, sculptor, ecologist, avid collaborator, Gabriel exists in the space where artistic envisioning meets dedicated reality-building. Guiding the imagined into the tangible. Emanating expressions of the deep interconnectedness of this planetary organism; exploring themes of destruction (of environments, of one another, and inseparably, of the self), the perpetual motion and cycling of change, and inevitably: the return to love as the way forward - not out of a naïve reductionism, but out of necessity.
